Louis Armstrong (trumpet), Fred Robinson (trombone), Jimmy Strong (clarinet), Earl Hines (piano), Mancy Carr (banjo), Zutty Singleton (drums)
The Hot Five was Armstrong’s group organized for Okeh Records at its Chicago recording studio. By 1928 Armstrong had replaced all of his original players. Most importantly Earl Hines now replaced Lil Hardin on piano and Zutty Singleton, a sixth member, was added as the drummer. This is the same group that recorded “West End Blues” the following day.
