This version of Stardust comes from a Keynote session in 1944 with Earl Hines. Also featured is the great under-appreciated alto saxophonist Tab Smith.

Charlie shines in both his solos. He manages to interject licks that he later repeated during the famous “Just Jazz” concert with Lionel Hampton.

Charlie Shavers should be recognized as one of a handful of jazz trumpeters who transcended styles, remaining relevant today!”
