Whispering (Melvin Schonberger & John Schonberger).

Charted at #1 in 1920. The importance of this catchy recording can not be over-estimated as it was one of the key pieces of music to usher in the Jazz Age of the 1920’s. It was also Paul Whiteman’s first hit, starting off a long string of smashes with over 200 charted records in Billboard over the 1920’s and 1930’s. Paul’s incredible popularity and jazzy arrangements led him to be dubbed “The King of Jazz”. “Whispering” sold over 2 million copies.

Other charting versions of “Whispering” over the years: #8 for Art Hickman and His Orchestra in 1920, #7 for Les Paul in 1951, #27 for Gordon Jenkins and His Orchestra in 1951, #18 UK for the Bachelors in 1963 and #11 Billboard Hot 100 for Nino Tempo and April Stevens in 1963 (#4 Adult Contemporary, #20 UK).

Recorded on August 23, 1920. Released in November 1920.
