Lyle Mays became famous as the genious counterpart of Pat Metheny aspart of his Quartet in the 70s. This concert is the only legal recording of the Lyle Mays quartet.
“That quartet really came together on that European tour. I was (and still am) very proud of how that quartet played with such precision and freedom at the same time. I loved playing with those guys and experiencing a band come together and then soar while on tour. There are no known photos of this concert, hell I’m not sure we even knew we were being recorded. We certainly played as if we didn’t know (which is part of what I love about it all).” – Lyle Mays.

-George W. Harris, Jazz Weekly, March 7, 2016
“Given his below-the-radar status, the emergence of any previously unheard Mays music of significance is a treat. This new set is not newly recorded-it documents a 1993 concert in Germany-but it’s a treasure, described in the liner notes as “the only legal recording of Mays’ acoustic quartet”” –Jazztimes, Jeff Tamarkin, 07/12/16
