Baritonist Hamiet Bluiett‘s first full album as a leader is quite impressive. His style on baritone, even at this early point, owed little to his predecessors. In a quintet with trumpeter Olu Dara and Jumma Santos on balafon, Bluiett takes a lot of chances during this adventurous performance. The four selections (three are fairly lengthy) are his originals and fit firmly in the avant-garde mainstream of the day (Scott Yanow/AllMusic).
