Produced by Jay Beckenstein, Living Colors is bound to appeal to Spyro Gyra audiences. Andy Narell’s contributions on “Pan Dance” and “New Math” lend a definite Caribbean influence and seem to be a preview of the Caribbean Jazz Project, which would eventually happen in the early ’90s. For the most part, Living Colors is a very nice album, however, Samuels tends not to be overly adventurous, making this well suited for smooth jazz radio (Ken Ketler/AllMusic).
