Lush Life is a studio album released by jazz pianist Dave Burrell. It was first released by Denon Records on April 2, 1978.

“Dave Burrell is heard in two very different contexts on this Denon LP, which was recorded in 1978, with bassist Takashi Mizuhashi joining him on four of the eight tracks. The first side is dedicated to music from the vast songbook of Duke Ellington, alternating between songs written by Ellington and his alter ego, Billy Strayhorn. “In a Sentimental Mood” is appropriately lush with a touch of the blues, though the bassist stays in the background, while Mizuhashi is much more prominent in a respectful treatment of “Come Sunday.” Burrell is unaccompanied for an enjoyable excursion through Strayhorn’s masterpiece “Lush Life” and a brief but mellow take of “A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing.” The remainder of the disc is devoted to Burrell’s compositions. “Mexico City” is a soft Latin number that builds from a repeated motif, which provides a perfect backdrop for Mizuhashi’s delightful solo. The remaining works also are very listenable though none are particularly memorable. This recommended album will likely be hard to locate.” – Ken Dryden/AllMusic.
