“Due to drug problems, trumpeter Howard McGhee did not record all that much in the 1950s. This is among his best all-round sessions of the decade, a quintet outing with baritonist Sahib Shihab (who doubles on alto), pianist Duke Jordan, bassist Percy Heath and drummer Philly Joe Jones.
