A wonderful modernist session from Tadd Dameron – and one that’s especially great because it’s filled with fresh themes that get past some of his over-reissued standards! Players here include Clifford Brown and Idrees Sulieman on trumpets, Gigi Gryce on alto, Benny Golson on tenor, and Dameron on piano – and the record has lots of great echoes of the Golson/Gryce sound that would come to prominence a few years later, plus some of those sharper moments from earlier in Brown’s career that we like so much (Dusty Groove).
