Howard McGhee – That Bop Thing

Thanks! Share it with your friends!

“Due to drug problems, trumpeter Howard McGhee did not record all that much in the 1950s. This is among his best all-round sessions of the decade, a quintet outing with baritonist Sahib Shihab (who doubles on alto), pianist Duke Jordan, bassist Percy Heath and drummer Philly Joe Jones. McGhee’s crisp and immediately distinctive sound and boppish style were still in prime form at the time despite his lack of consistent activity and he contributed five of the 11 selections.” – Scott Yanow/AllMusic.
