Balance is the fourth solo studio album by American jazz guitarist Chuck Loeb, released in 1991 through Digital Music Products (DMP). Recorded live over three days at The Carriage House in Stamford, Connecticut, the record is a staple of early ’90s smooth jazz and jazz fusion, praised for its strong melodies and rich textures.
Reception
This effort by guitarist Chuck Loeb is an easy-listening set full of strong melodies and having just enough variety to hold one’s interest throughout the entire CD. Joined by a fine supporting cast which includes keyboardist Jon Werking and Bob Mintzer on tenor and bass clarinet, Loeb displays an attractive guitar sound that at various times recalls Wes Montgomery, Grant Green or Larry Carlton. A particular surprise is that “Eternal Flame,” a pop tune associated with the Bangles, is transformed into a sensitive ballad (Scott Yanow/AllMusic).
